We are multi-dimensional humans. We are moms, dads, sisters, brothers. We have hobbies AND some of us have side hustles.
So why are we JUST talking about our primary jobs here?
Why can’t we showcase those side hustles, our second jobs, our third jobs? Are they helping to pay our bills?
After all, don’t some of us want to make our side hustles our full-time gigs one day?
As long as your full-time employer is OK, with it (If you haven’t had a discussion with your boss about it, why not?), why wouldn’t you add it to your LinkedIn profile?
Why not talk about your side hustle in your About section?
Why not talk about your side hustle in your Experience section?
Why not elude to your side hustle in your Headline?
I was approached by someone who was lit up, enthusiastic and excited when she spoke about her side hustle. She asked me about adding it to LinkedIn. I replied, as long as your boss is OK with it, why wouldn’t you add it?
Your LinkedIn profile is not JUST about your 9 to 5.
Everyone says LinkedIn is professional.
I say, that depends on how you define professional.
Should you put your full-time job on LinkedIn? Sure.
Should you put your business on LinkedIn? Sure!
Should what you do and who you are outside of your business and outside of your full-time job, be on LinkedIn? ABSOLUTELY!
Because…you’re HUMAN!
If someone told me 10 years ago that I’d put “Mom Taxi” or Buffalo Bills fan on my LinkedIn, I would have replied, “You’re crazy”.
Now, I’m proud of my banner, my profile, and the vibe I’m putting out there.
You should be too.
You should be proud of your LinkedIn profile about you. Be proud of the 3D version of you, because you are more than your 9 to 5.
You are more relatable when you can peel the onion and show more of who you are. We are humans so let’s showcase our human side.
