Creating content on LinkedIn can be confusing. Some people just don’t know what to post, or how to post, honestly, there are more questions than answers!
Some might also say it’s intimidating. LinkedIn is a professional networking platform but what does professional mean? How do I create content that speaks to professionals?
Professionals are humans. We need to relate to you and one of the best ways for us to relate to you is when you tell us your stories.
Here’s a good example of a story that people relate to. The other day I shared a story of the day my husband and I first met. It was appropriate for Super Bowl Sunday because we met at a Super Bowl Party. I’ll paste the link to it in the comments just in case you missed it.
Not only did people resonate and relate to the story, but I also heard some awesome stories in the comments of how others met their spouses and in many cases they’ve been married decades since. Why did they share their stories? I asked them how they met in my post.
Some people commented that they met online, and others told me they met at a party like my husband and I. There were some unique meet-up stories. I replied to all the comments and others chimed in for the conversations.
This post, which went live on a Sunday morning, (yes people are on LinkedIn on the weekend!) could be my biggest post in months – as far as impressions and engagements go. My profile views went up, I picked up more subscribers to this newsletter, all in all, a big visibility boost.
Yes I do pay attention to my numbers, I just don’t live and die by them.
Maybe you’re next question is: “What kind of stories should we tell, Deanna?”
The stories don’t have to be personal, they just have to be relatable. We can’t know, like or trust you if we can’t relate with you. Tell us the stories like we were standing right in front of you.
You don’t need to use any big words, just tell us those stories.
We will trust you when we know you’re a real human, we will trust you, when you tell us a story that proves you’re a real human, AND when you are worthy of our trust.
Speaking of trust, I’ve been creating content here on LinkedIn for nearly six and a half years. Creating content helped me grow organically here from 400 to nearly 31,000 followers.
So many clients have trusted me over the past five years as I’ve taught them about the ins and outs of content on LinkedIn – what to post, what works, what doesn’t, AND how to format it in order to make it work. I can help you too, just send me a “Teach me!” in the DMs.
