13 years ago, November 12, 2008, I had surgery to remove a carcinoid tumor in my lung.
It was found when I was having back pain after I was in a car accident earlier that year.
I am so happy to report that when it was surgically removed back in 2008, that was it!
I’ve had quite a few checkups since then and so much anxiety preceded each of those appointments because well, it’s cancer.
At each checkup, I get 😁 and “all good”👍👏!
Last year at my checkup the doctor said my right lung looks really good, it’s “grown back” and healthy. I have one more checkup to go, next year.
If all goes well at that checkup, I won’t have to have any more checkups!!!
It’s crazy that this anniversary comes just weeks after I got Covid because I was super worried about getting it for a year and a half because of how it affects your lungs.
That doctor assured me a year ago that I would be OK if I got it and I honestly think it helped my mindset a LOT.
Yep, today I’m healthy and feeling good and so grateful. Grateful wife of a loving husband who’s been with me through so many hard days and continues to love me in the small moments too.
Grateful mom of three healthy kids who just told two more doctors the story of my lung cancer (both shook their heads) last week.
Grateful for all my family and friends.
Grateful for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and Sai Yendamuri MD, FACS. I can honestly say I don’t know if I’d be here without this amazing doctor and Roswell is one of the best cancer hospitals in the country.
Grateful that I’m breathing with TWO healthy lungs! Celebrate every milestone and enjoy every minute. I don’t take anything for granted.
