Keeping My Network Small

by | Oct, 2023

Super interesting! That’s what I thought when two people commented with differing opinions about a topic completely unrelated to my original post, last week.

Wait, what! Cue the Twilight Zone music….

Crazy, right? They were the inspiration for this newsletter.

The original postwas about the biggest mistakes you see people making in their LinkedIn profiles.

Cassandra Rosen 🎯🌱📈 commented: “Not a profile mistake…But intentionally keeping their network extremely small is a huge error. Your network IS your net worth.”

Mic Drop!

I agree with her. Think of LinkedIn as a big networking event. If you walked into that event and just stayed with people you know, you walked in with them, you sat with them, you chatted JUST with them, and then left. What’s the point of going to that networking event?

You never know what will happen if you open yourself up to the potential!

Networking means meeting new people, building relationships with NEW people, talking to NEW people to open up potential windows and doors for you, for them, for possibilities.

What Cassandra means is, if your network is 10 or 20 people you aren’t opening up your wallet to the potential of the hundreds who could be waiting to meet you.

Now, let’s talk about Katie LaVelle. In the same post on profile mistakes she added that she needs to see people’s profile picture. She also commented, “I personally don’t add a lot of people I don’t know, or have connections with.”

I need a reason!

I commented that she was inspiring a post. Why Katie? What would happen if you did add people you didn’t know? What would happen if you added people you didn’t have connections with?

What’s the worst thing that could happen? You’d meet someone new!

Look, I’m not saying everyone needs to have a network of 28,000+ people (yeah only the crazy people do that LOL), but what’s the harm of opening up the “potential” window?

Did you know that out of all the people who’ve hired me for LinkedIn coaching…I only knew less than 1% of them before I started Leverage Up, LLC?

That’s right! The vast majority got to know me through my profile, through my comments, through my content (kinda makes you wonder why I created my triangle strategy, right?!), then they invested in my coaching because I earned their know, like, and trust.

Have you connected with people on LinkedIn you didn’t know? If not, what would happen if you did?
