This is the first image that comes to mind when I think of when I think of the most used reaction here on LinkedIn.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a Generation X girl and I love the movie Wayne’s World as much as the next person. The scene of Wayne and Garth and their friends singing Bohemian Rhapsody in their Gremlin…classic.
Here’s why I’m using it in this newsletter. If you want to have conversations, you can’t really chat, converse, or talk to people with reactions.
I’ve been networking in person and online for 10 years. I have yet to walk into a networking event, and see people walking around giving each other the emojis that we all use to interact with content here – the thumbs up, the heart, the clapping emoji, or even the support emoji. Do you know what I do see people doing???
I see people TALKING to each other! I see people having CONVERSATIONS! When you look at LinkedIn like a big networking event, you aren’t coming here with a goal of just checking a box by reacting to posts. You are looking at LinkedIn as a plethora of opportunity.
You don’t go to a networking event expecting to make a sale each and every time, right? Why would you come to LinkedIn to make a sale or for instant gratification?
Have conversations, where we can get to like you. When you react, it doesn’t allow us the potential of a relationship. You are just checking the box. Don’t check the box, talk to us.
PLEASE do not use AI to generate comments.
Write like you would speak to that person as if you were standing face to face with them.
Your comments don’t need to be a book. A sentence or two will do the trick, and check your notifications for a reply from the person. There’s nothing better than an ongoing conversation sparked by a common interest.
That, my friends, is how relationships are built. You are here to build relationships, right?
I’ve said this for years “The Gold is in the comments.” Next thing you know, the comments organically lead to DM conversations.
It goes back to my Leverage Up, LLC Triangle Strategy. Get to know people through the profile, get to like them through the comments, and get to trust them through the content.
