Teaching with my content – it’s something I’ve done for years, and now that I’m in the midst of my job search, it’s no different.
When I started my job search two months ago and for the weeks following, I revised my resume and LinkedIn profile, and then my routine began: apply, apply, apply.
I opened the “Jobs” tab and went to Indeed. I found quite a few opportunities, so I hit “Apply”. I filled in the blanks on every online application.
Here’s the thing. It’s not working. I’ve applied to 100 JOBS in the past 60 DAYS, not one of those jobs has produced an interview!
Here’s what I’m doing differently as I continue looking for my next opportunity.
I’m having conversations. I’m talking to people in my network. Yesterday, I spoke to Andy Greider, and today he introduced me to two people via text message. He also suggested a few people to follow on LinkedIn.
Want to chat? I’m open to having a conversation. Send me a DM. Get to know me.
I’m creating content. I’m commenting. Not just scrolling and doing it without a plan.
I’m also revising my resume and my LinkedIn profile on a regular basis. People need to know that I’m transitioning from business owner to job seeker.
Creating content strategically, commenting strategically.
Strategy for job seeking…What does that mean?
It means people do business with people, and people work with people. If people don’t know you, they can’t hire you. You must have conversations. Phone calls, Zoom calls, and commenting here on LinkedIn so people see you and they get to know you, like you, and trust you.
Applying to everything you see online means you are only adding your resume to the pile of hundreds that are sitting on the desks of HR managers and recruiters. In many cases, these are AI-driven applicants. They aren’t even real people applying to these jobs.
I’m done with that.
Rather than go through that vicious cycle time and time again, I’m focusing on the three 3Cs.
Conversations
Commenting
Content
Oh, and I can’t forget – staying positive. There are plenty of days when I feel the dismay and rejection of job seeking, but I need to focus on knowing my worth, knowing my value, and communicating that with everyone I come into contact with.
What do you think? Am I on the right track?

➡️ I’m looking for my next opportunity!!! Digital marketing strategy, content marketing, public relations, and communications roles are right up my alley. If that hiring manager would love to have someone with LinkedIn strategy and know-how who grew from 400-31,600 here, I’ve got that too!
